Get your Measles Shot if Planning a Pregnancy!

Feb 5th 2015

Now that measles is back, it is especially important for women planning on getting pregnant to get vaccinated against measles, or receive a booster shot if they have had their vaccine a while ago.  The vaccine can't be given safely during pregnancy, so get it before you start trying to conceive.

Measles puts pregnant women at a higher risk for severe complications for themselves and their babies.  Complications can include pneumonia and an increased chance of premature labor.

If you are already pregnant, the maternal-fetal medicine society recommends that pregnant women avoid large crowds if they're not sure whether they're immune.

As always, consult with your physician when planning on conceiving and have a healthy pregnancy!
